the holidays have been bliss so far
i've eaten delicious foods
wrapped many presents
excitedly unwrapped many gifts
sung carols (off-tune, but still counts)
snatched some amazing items from the sales rack
and spent time with amazing friends

my friend caitie paid me a visit
we jumped in her volvo
grabbed delicious drinks at our local starbucks
(side note: I recommend the Caramel Apple Cider from Starbucks)
we settled onto the couch
munched on Parmesan and garlic oil bread dipper
and pressed play

we dwelled into a little something called
prison documentaries!
caitie and I love docs
mainly counter-culture docs
if lisa ling has reported on it; we will obsess over it
we decided on MSNBCs Lock Up Raw series

its always wonderful to spend time with those people
with whom fun is effortless
people who you don't see for a while
but when you do, you just pick up where you left off
that's one thing I'm most grateful this holiday season
effortless friendships

caitie's blog (which is marvelous by the way)
perfectly recreates our adventure
intrigued? get over there

hope that you are sneaking in some time with those who live far,
* i know i'm glad i did ;) *

il m'aime … pas du tout

death cab for cutie asked all of their fans
to showcase their creativity
by creating a video for one of their songs
off their album, plans
this video is my favourite

death cab for cutie ont demandé leur ventilateurs

pour créer un vidéo

d'une chanson de leur album

celui-ci est mon favori

The French part of the song is a play on the game, "he loves me...he loves me not"

on the mirror:

"il m'aime" — he loves me

on her hand:

"un peu" — … a little bit?

painted on the wall:

"beaucoup" — … a lot?

on her arm:

"passionément" — … passionately?

cut into her leg:

"a la folie" — … madly?

on the mirror, she adds:

"il m'aime … pas du tout" — he does not love me at all.

what's old is new again

as we move through life
we rush to get a hold of the new technologies that spring up
they are faster, stronger, and more efficient than their predecessors
that often fade into oblivion (walkmen, anyone?)
/

MPs replace CDs
DVDs replace VHS
digital replaces polaroids
/

but there are those inventions that are simply classic
they may be replaced with newer and faster versions
their replacements might be more portable and efficient
but these pieces are timeless and artistic
/

my two favourite pieces of vintage technology?
the vinyl record player
&
the type writer
they evoke such an experience
/

pulling out a vinyl evokes laughter from guests
while slipping in a CD receives no reaction

writing a note on a typewriter is so permanent
whereas word documents can be erased, renamed, deleted
/

that's why i was super excited when i stumbled upon these treasures
on the urban outfitters
website
they are pieces that refuse to fade into the hole of outdated technology
i for one, am glad of their resistance

something you LOVE

There are those rare moments
when you discover that two things that you like have combined
to create something you LOVE
/

jelly shots (jell-o + alcohol = yum!)
smarties ice cream
mac and cheese
/

the newest addition to my list are pretzel croissants
delicious salty pretzels
warm flaky croissants
combined?
revolutionary!
/

they are currently sold in New York where they have gained a cult following
fingers crossed that bakeries in toronto catch on
for now you can drool over the picture
/

hope you are having fun buying and wrapping, and maybe rewrapping

21 December 2008

on Friday we had a major snow storm
how major? 30 centimetres major.
meteorologists sounded stern and cautious / children rushing to the nearest snowy hill sounded the opposite.

after helping to decorate the tree, I edited analyst reports all day,
listening to my favourite bands cover Christmas carols.
edit edit. groove groove. repeat

finished my work around dusk.
realized how much I love scenic snowy nights.
lindt chocolate + warm milk = hot chocolate without leaving the house
toasted a bagel. mixed pepper and sun dried tomatoes with cream cheese.
crunchy yum.

Turned on fireplace & television.
popped in Home Alone.
holiday classic
perfect.

safe travels and happy holidays,

17 December 2008

I was doing some online shopping for Christmas presents today.

When I am in Canada during the Holidays I prefer to shop in December because that's when the Christmas carols surround the department stores and everyone has that joyous spirit that becomes contagious.

I was doing some online shopping today because it was simply too snowy to venture into the cold. Thankfully, I discovered a website called "Kikkerland." I only wish I had found it earlier so that I could have put the items on the store on all of my wish lists.

The website is very unique because the products are from a variety of designers and I found the pricing to be quite reasonable. But I particularly liked the unique nature of the products. Case in point: the controversial Passport Holders. I felt that the "blurb" about the product best described it:

"Travel back in place and time with Kikkerland's Controversial Passport Holders. Go RED with a Soviet USSR passport; go to Colombia for the WHITE stuff; or go BLACK to the Vatican."

Pure brilliance! I am not able to order any items because their retailers are in the US only but I will place it on my wish list for my US friends! Click HERE to explore the site for yourself!

I hope you all enjoy shopping from the couch!

video: by me!
hello lovelies,

note: I am infamous for hearing the wrong lyrics to songs.
Case in point: my last entry.
though I initially thought the lyrics were, "so happy...so happy" they were in fact the opposite!
Lykke Li sings, "so I weep...so I weep"
i contemplated erasing the post but then I would deprive you of a wonderful tune!
/
/

i hope your day includes some hot chocolate,
/
amusez-vous!

"so happy...so happy"

Salut mesdames et messieurs!
/

Cette semaine est la première de mes vacances de fac donc je suis très heureuse. Si vous écoutez les paroles, vous comprendrez la raison pourquoi j'ai choisi cette chanson.
/
This week marks the first of my winter vacation from university. I felt that the lyrics to this tune perfectly grasped my excitement.

Je vous souhaite beaucoup de bonheur!
/
I wish you a week of splendid surprises and beautiful music.

UPDATE: Regretfully, MixWit, the website that hosts the songs has closed down. The song that plays is not the one I talk about in the post. The song in the post is Let it Fall by Lykke Li

retail therapy? yes, please!

Hello lovelies,

Quick post showcasing some of my favourite pieces from designer Tom Scott. Although I am not crazy about his S/S 09 collection, the past pieces are wonderful. Explore his website and experience the artsy avant-garde photo shoots which perfectly compliment his brilliant pieces season after season.

I particularly love the colour hues of his pieces. They make me think of living in an authentic loft that has been converted from an art gallery with tall white walls. More of his collection
here.

The name of the material used for the bottoms in the last two pictures pictures i've listed escapes me at present but it is simply wonderful. I purchased a spring jacket this past weekend of the same material.

Funny story.

As I entered the store I shimied to the sales rack (note: the sales rack has a gravatational pull for students). I picked up a few pieces and came across a jacket, knowing that my mom is a fan of the material, I picked it up and glanced at the price. "$8!"

I was fairly shocked but I did not dedicate much time to the shock because a) I was in a discount designer brand store (Winners) and b) I had laid sight on a wonderful brown blouse which stole my attention.

After I returned home and presented my mom with the gift, i quickly bragged about the price and my bargain finding abilities. (I may or may not have compared myself to a modern superhero, with amazing riding boots!) She was initially hesitant to believe the price but after I presented the receipt she was ecstatic. She revealed that she was at the same store the week before where she planned on purchasing the same jacket but resisted after turning over the sales tag and seeing, "$160"

I could not believe her so i returned to the store and to my surprise there were a few scattered around the store but they were all $160. When i returned home I noticed that my tag read "knit" which probably means that it was wrongly labeled. I've placed the tag on my bulletin board beside some of my certificates; a fitting place because it is quite the accomplishment!

I hope your week is full of baked goods, inspiring weather and bargain finds!
